Yesterday was our one year engagement anniversary. The photo above was taken a year ago today, after we called all of our friends and family to tell them the news. The story of our engagement is kind of funny, so today is probably a good day to share it.In December 2004, we were out Christmas shopping and being new-ish to San Diego we didn't know where we were going. There was a huge, cheesy sign approaching us - I started to read what it - out loud - as we approached the store. Guess what it said? "Robbins Bros, The World's Biggest Engagement Ring Store". I had no idea, I was mortified, and didn't want this to be the way we began our official "getting married" discussion. Michael very calmly said, "You know, I wouldn't be opposed to looking at engagement rings if you would like to." My response ... "Well, it does claim to be the world's biggest engagement ring store and if we don't go in we'll never know if what they claim is true." So we went into the store, and I ended up picking out my engagement ring/wedding band set. (We didn't know this at the time, because we ended up shopping around for the next month or so and I ended up getting the same setting I liked that first day from a different store which had a diamond that we liked.)How did we get engaged? The store we got the ring from was back in Chicago. Michael had to go to Chicago just before Valentine's Day, and returned late that night. We (I) didn't know that the ring was ready.... it was supposed to take another 4-6 weeks to get the setting from the designer. But it came in early. So when he got home, he simply kneeled down by the sofa (it was late, I was in my PJs) and he asked me. It was sweet. It was a surprise. It was perfect. One year later and I'm a married woman! Wow!!!
