DOTW - Brandy
This week's DOTW (Dog of the Week) is Brandy, a 4-5 year old female shepherd mix. Here's her profile from the Rancho Coastal Humane Society:

Brandy is a happy girl who adores people. She has spent the majority of her time outside and now would like to find a home where she can be indoors and part of the family. She loves to go for walks and she seems to always has a smile on her face. We think she would do well living with a submissive male dog, but she is too energetic for children. All Brandy wants is someone to give her lots of love and attention - is that too much to ask? Brandy weighs approximately 92 pounds.

Every other week I volunteer at the Humane Society and today was a wonderful day. I've known Brandy for about 1.5 months. I think I first met her when she first came into the facility, and she was pretty nervous and jumpy. I've gotten to know her and she's such a sweetheart. She loves going for walks, being with people, and giving hugs. It breaks my heart seeing her, and then thinking about her at night when it is dark & everyone has gone home - here she is spending weeks living in a cage (it's nice, but still) and whenever I come to see her, all she does is be friendly, gives dog hugs and behaves so well. I really hope that she finds a home soon!

We take our kids to the pet store periodically so they can have their "pet" fix. I always feel so sorry for the dogs locked up in cages. I actually feel sorry for all of the animals at the zoo, too-but that is another story.

Anyway, someday I will actually take one of those cute puppies home.

Brandy is so beautiful.

I grew up with large dogs and never grew accustomed to them. D wants a greyhound, but I am not so sure. I would love to have a pocket dog though. Saw some Rat Terriers at the pet store and totally fell in love. D said no.

That's so great that you volunteer at the Humane Society, Tricia.

My niece runs an animal rescue. She visits the shelter and waits until a dog is on it's very last day then adopts it (with her own money) and finds a good home for it (and doesn't charge). She's rescued 14 or 15 dogs now.

What a beautiful dog. Shepherds are so smart, I'm sure she's a great dog.
