Feeling Blue

I got home on Monday from my weekend in Chicago. It was a wonderful trip. I was able to hang out with my bestfriend from college, Shalisa and her babies: Lucas (2.5 yo) and Clara (3 weeks old). It's amazing to watch Lucas grow up, realizing that he started where Clara is now. It was wonderful to see Clara so young, but there's an extra special bond I have with Lucas. You see I was able to be at the hospital when Lucas was born and was able to hold him when he was less than one hour old. That's definitely one disadvantage of now being so far away from Chicago. But life changes as we know. I am looking forward to this summer. Shalisa and Clara will be coming in May for 5 days to hang out, go shopping, get pedicures, etc (can't wait until she's older & then we'll head to Vegas j/k). Then in August, Shalisa will bring the rest of the family for a week of fun in the sun. Apparently Lucas loves the beach after his Thanksgiving in Florida, and since we live 5 miles from the beach, it's the perfect summer getaway for the family. It would be nice if we had our two little ones to complement hers, but hopefully summer 2007 we'll be there.

I also visited with my family - grandfather, cousin Eric and cousin Tim (with wife Melinda & their 14 month old Lucas). Another Lucas! So I really was able to check out children of different ages this weekend. It was nice to see them, discuss new jobs & new houses, and really pig out on comfort food made by grandpa (chicken soup, stuffed cabbage, cherry pie). We thought about grandma alot - there was a thunderstorm Saturday night. She was always terrified of thunderstorms and would turn off the television, get off the phone, for fear that the lightening would strike her house. We went to the cemetary, then we went to church (on Sunday). Did I mention previously that my grandma is Russian Orthodox? So I got to see her friends, listen to the choir (1.5 hour service, did I ever!) and talk to the priest's wife about our adoption. The church actually does missionary work in the Ukraine, and we have talked with her about going over on their next trip and "investigate" the orphanage that they visit and support.

I'm reading a good book, "Marley and Me" by John Grogan. It's a story about a man (his family) and his life with their lab retriever. I am getting towards the end, and Marley is getting pretty old, and I want to keep reading, but don't if you know what I mean. This is bumming me out.

In addition, one of my blog friends got some unfortunate news yesterday and this is really bumming me out. So I am going to put on my pajamas, turn on the American Idol and eat a bowl of ice cream tonight. Thinking about you, D and L.

I am glad you had a nice trip!

That would be a great opportunity if you can go over to Ukraine and "investigate" the orphanage that those people you met visit and support.

That sounds so nice to put on pajamas, turn on a good TV show and eat a bowl of ice cream after a long day!

Sorry you're feeling bummed. (I hope I'm not partially the cause of that!) Your time will come. There are two kiddos out there waiting for you.
