Around the World and Back

Hi everyone! I'm finally back from my business trip to Tokyo and Singapore. I got back Tuesday afternoon. I've been working through my jet lag and day to day craziness the last few days. I'm happy to have a relatively quiet weekend ahead of me to get things in order. A lot has happened!

1. My Pottery Barn furniture arrived yesterday. I ended up getting one bedroom set: bed, dresser, bedside table and bookcase. Plus a couple of lamps & some bedding. It all looked nice together on the website, and being design challenged I thought I would just get everything and be done with it! I'll take pics when I have the room set up. I'm putting together my portfolio of pics for the other rooms of the house so I can get an interior designer over here to sort out the rest of it so I have furniture my Christmas.

2. We went to an informational meeting at our adoption agency Thursday night. There were only two couples (us included) and two singles. "Business" must be down because last year there were easily 6-8 couples there. The agency director remembered us and we had a short conversation and he seems very eager to get us started now. We talked about all of the changes going on in Russia right now, and I didn't ask him directly about accrediation status... I know what it is and will ask when we meet with him to finally kick things off. Don't worry - I have learned my lesson all too well and will NOT be using an unaccrediated agency!!! Looks like we will be putting in our application in August and the homestudy will start soon thereafter. I was excited to learn that they have placed quite a few biological siblings and he didn't seem to think our preferences were unreasonable. Oh, and for those waiting for referrals... our agency is saying two months for an infant boy and eight months for an infant girl when your dossier is registered.

3. We are going on vacation in just 9 days! Finally we are going camping after talking about it for the two years we have been out here. Can't wait for this road trip... it's been a long time coming.

4. Dog adoption news! My girl Kora was adopted when I was in Tokyo! I'm so happy for her, but sad not to see her anymore. Not so good news... I saw this week that Babette's pic is back on the website which means it didn't work out with her family and she's back at the humane society. I'll see her today so I'm looking forward to that. Hobbs, a Weimaraner, and another favorite, was adopted this week. That only leaves Babette and Tinkerbelle (slightly overweight but sweet Dalmatian, pictured above) needing a family. I always enjoy working with Tinkerbelle - long walks, playing ball... we both could lose those 15-20 lbs so it's kind of like group therapy!

I was able to keep up with everyone while abroad but was way too tired to post many comments. Sounds like things are moving slowly but surely for everyone. Love those internal Margaret's and Jen's out there... We need to find a good happy hour and get them down there! I have plenty to moan about as well, so save a chair for me.

Glad you are back! How exciting that your bedroom set came. I can't wait to see a photo. Not too long before you can get the adoption ball rolling.

Have fun camping!

Glad you had a good trip to Tokyo and that you're home safe and sound.

Yay for the new furniture. I can't wait to see it.

I'm sure you feel like you're finally on your way with the adoption process (soon) and things will start to pick up speed now.

Have fun camping!

Welcome back! I look forward to hearing about your camping trip. We're heading up to Tahoe for a week of camping next month. Also, have been hearing the same news about girl referral times from the agency. I am hopeful that we won't be waiting that long since we got on the list in March.... but I don't know.

How did you get on in the end? I have discovered this site nearly 6 months after the post, but no more news.

I am interested to know how you got on?
