Lots of progress has been made this week on the adoption front.
1. We received our certified originals of our birth certificates (
2. Our homestudy consent and check were received by our agency. On the same day we were assigned a social worker and she called us to arrange our first appointment at her office. This will take place on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. We'll also set-up times on Wed for our individual appointments; and the last appointment will be at our house.
3. We hand delivered our I-600A on Tuesday and received our fingerprint letters. It didn't happen without some drama of course (...thinking of Jen of Three Sons...). When I added up the cost to file the form, and the two $70 fingerprint fees, somehow I got $695. So Michael got a cashier's check for $695. I realized this the night before and we were planning to get to the office at 8AM before the banks were open. Mother nature helped us out - we had a rainy morning so the traffic was horrible. We delayed going downtown until we knew a bank would be open and got another check so we didn't have to wait in line only to be turned away & told to get a proper check.
It was neat meeting the woman who will be processing our I-600A. She said that if we bring back our homestudy in >three-four weeks, our fingerprints will be processed by then and we should be able to walk out of the office with our I-171H in hand! How cool is that???!!!
4. Since we were so late and I had to get back to work, Michael completed his I-600A fingerprints and also had his LiveScan fingerprints later that day. This is on my list for next Wednesday.
5. Last things we need to check off the homestudy list: get our appointed guardian to write a letter, get our letters of recommendation in, finalize our financial stuff (M says it's almost done) and get back M's employment verification.
Piece of cake!
