Teresa Kelleher's "Adopting from Russia" Handbook
When we attended the pre-travel meeting at our agency last month, one of the families HIGHLY recommended Teresa Kelleher's CD/handbook which contains Russian phrases and adoption advice. I flipped through it - it looks very practical. We also met a local couple yesterday who adopted two sibling girls six years ago - they mentioned the handbook as well. (It was nice to meet you guys!) Does anyone have experience with these guides? There is also a guide for the children to learn English phrases (suitable for 4+ years)...

I am anxious to get started with learning some Russian so I will probably give these a shot. Rosetta Stone is just too ambitious for me right now! ;-)

As you know, I really am liking this book and the CD. YAH tib-YAH loo-BLOO. (I love you!) Interestingly, you use the same verb for innocuous things like YAH loo-BLOO ah-pehl-SEEN. (I like oranges.) And only the Russians could make saying an offical "Hello" so difficult (Z-DRAHS-tvoy-tyeh).

I recently heard about these as well. If you start them let me know how you like them. I really need to start learning myself.

I didn't have them myself, but some of the other host families had Kelleher materials and they were helpful.

We're adopting a 7 year old girl (waiting for court). I memorized everything in Teresa Kelleher's book and it was very helpful during the first trip. I really felt like I could say and understand a lot of things just from this info. You can use alot of the words you learn to make different phrases, too. It's a really good foundation to do first before starting another program like Rosetta Stone, which is certainly more ambitious, but not as specific towards your needs. (I'm doing that one too).
