Time Flies While You Are Waiting

(Picture from Aug 2004 getting our marriage license in Las Vegas)

It's been a good week here. REALLY busy. Both of us are swimming with work. It's been a long time since I've been challenged at work, and it feels good to have that feeling. Kind of like that "stay up all night to study for finals" feeling. Especially nice is knowing that once our adoption is finalized, my work will definitely be prioritized differently.

We are still getting some things sorted out with our furniture. We have had some mishaps along the way that I haven't mentioned... loose leg on the kitchen table, wrong dining room buffet, 13-inch crack down the front leg of the living room chair... Just to name three things. Yes, our house is the bermuda triangle for new furniture. (Note to visitors: there are now comfy chairs for everyone!!!)

I don't know what we would have done if we needed our dossier pictures sooner. Picture after picture of empty rooms would be hard to explain.

We have our medical doctor and psychologist visits for the dossier scheduled for the end of March. In the meantime we are just completing all of the forms. We'll need to go down to get our good conduct letter in the next couple of weeks. All in all, this paperwork isn't that bad. I think we can get things wrapped up by Easter... the only thing we are really waiting on is our certified marriage certificates from Nevada that we'll need to send back for the apostilles.

Our agency held it's annual spring picnic this afternoon and we stopped by for an hour. Lots of cute kids. Everyone was saying very good things about the in-country staff, and how pleased they were with their children. We've always heard great things about our agency, but it's always nice to get reassurance along the way. No news about re-accrediation though. :(

On Wednesday night our agency is having a "parenting & discipline" course which we'll probably attend. It will be good timing since we'll be discussing discipline during the psychological evaluation.

Tomorrow I am heading to Palm Springs until Tuesday to attend a workshop for work. (I'm throwing that info in for Jenn...) I'm most excited because I have two hours of driving each way which means I get to practice my Russian with the Teresa Kelleher CDs. While I'm gone, M will take care of Thani & Yoshi and continue to sort through some old paperwork he has collected from his family business. He's been working on his family tree and has some branches mapped back to the early 1800s!

Congrats on the dossier progress. When I first started mine (Russian dossier) I panicked;my agency had a dossier training class and it did nothing but confuse me. It seemed so hard. But once I got into it and just tackled it piece by piece it wasn't hard at all. When I signed on with my agency for domestic adoption my case worker presented my dossier packet gently and kept giving me "don't worry" statements. I guess most people freak a bit and I was completely not bothered. It was nothing compared to international requirements!

It's awesome how far M has gotten with his family tree. That's a lot of work, but I'm sure his whole family will appreciate his efforts.

Thanks for the Palm Springs info. - I know I can always count on you for my vicarious trip taking needs.

Sounds like things are looking good with your progress toward your adoption!

Can you take pics of your house inside? We want to see

Hi Tricia, I've actually visited your blog before. Glad you found mine! Good luck with getting your dossier completed and moving on to the next step!! I like the Teresa Kelleher CD too. I put it on my I-pod, and listen while I'm on the treadmill (best used at home...I look pretty retarded talking to myself quietly in bad Russian at the gym). I also found some Russian language CD's at the library that I listen to in the car sometimes. Repetition helps. Have fun on your trip!

It sounds like things are coming along! My hubby does genealogy too. He's got some of our family tree way back.

Sounds like things are moving forward! Are you liking those CDs so far? Oh and thanks for the words of wisdom over on my blog about being patient. Hopefully we can hang in there by hearing how your adoption (and others) are moving along.
