I thought I'd take advice from my weekend fortune cookie, and called my agency to see where we were on the waiting list.
I was pleased to hear that we are #1... on the list for two girls - siblings - between 3-6 years old. Due to accrediation, summer holidays, summer camp for the kids, and Russia's "foster care system" (apparently affecting the number of referrals for girls of this age range) our agency director thought we will not receive a referral until September. Our referrals could come sooner but will probably be Sept or later since our preferences are pretty specific. Other families are waiting for singles, or multiples with younger or older children.
I discussed with him how we may receive a referral sooner:
1. Travel blind.
2. Broaden our age range. We are approved children between 2-8 years old.
3. Request siblings OR non-siblings.
We are going to take some time to think through these ideas to figure out what is most important to us... sex, age, siblings or non-siblings, amount of referral info, etc.
hugs,
Laura
In my experience, 7 is not that different than six. In our region (and it's probably that way in others too) they stay in the preschool age orphanage until the fall after they turn 7, after which they go to school.
Tough choices.
