Distractions-A-Plenty
I really appreciate all of the advice and support from my last post about feeling some guilt around my excitement about getting our referrals and meeting our girls. I know that the girls will come with history and possibly some baggage, just like us. I just don't want to gloss over anything or make big deals out of nothing. I want to make sure we have all of the resources & know how to help them grow with our family and provide them with whatever they need.

And we want to be cool parents.

We've had another busy week here. Almost busy enough to forget that we are waiting for our referrals. Michael's mother was visiting us from Florida since Friday. She flew over for a few days to attend a wedding with us. I'll post some photos later, but let's just say it was really cool and the evening pretty much can be summarized by a comment I made at 11:15pm (just before we were leaving the hall):

"uhhh, Michael... I think I took one too many baklava..."
And finally, in order to pass the time I have three big projects that I am working on: (1) geneology, complete with photo documentation from my grandmother & the early/mid 1900s... have to figure out how to do that; (2) photo albums - scrapbooking style - for trip 1 complete with english / russian words; and (3) jewelry making. I've just gone out and bought a bunch of beads and supplies. I think this is a good mix of computer work, and artsy/keep your hands busywork.
What did you do to keep busy during the wait?

Main thing I do is scrapbook.
Of course I also go to plenty of movies. And the Waiting Families support group I go to each month is a big help.

Let's face it. I drank. Just kidding. I did some gardening (shocking!) and quilting. I also learned that whole html/css/blog design thing.

Well, I PLAN on ...

1. continue medical school - which is probably enough by itself

2. decorating our new home - which we will buy just before we send in the applications

3. scrapbooking - I need to catch up since our wedding (so when we're waiting I will have about 3 years worth of photos, tickets, scraps to put together)

4. getting ready for baby (decorating, reading, researching schools, play groups, etc) - because honestly I feel clueless about being a mother

5. learning a new city - we're going to move to Chicago after all! That city in itself should give me plenty of opportunities to stay busy!

But, I'm sure when we are waiting I will still be whining about it on my blog..... and you can someday remind me of this list. :)

Sadly, during the wait I just ate and ate and ate some more. Luckily I've lost all the adoption-weight I gained + more now.

I seemed to eat alot, comfort food:) Having a support group and talking to others going thru the process or who had been thru the process was a great help.

During the wait, I did a lot of knitting and decorating of the kids bedroom. Sadly, I also did my share of complaining about the wait (which was really not that bad). I'm lucky that people still put up with me!

Well, I didn't wait for adoption processes but did have to wait for the babies to actually come out! Our hobby is redoing our house and then we we are done we typically move. Hopefully when we get done with this house we can stay in it a little bit longer than the last! Hope you are well!

Um...eat. Freak out. Eat some more. Shop. Eat.

That's pretty much it.
