Putting Things In Perspective
Secretly I have been hoping for Trip #1 in June. We even got tickets back in April to see one of my favorite artists of all time (Morrissey) this coming Sunday. Of course this meant we were going to travel in June. Morrissey RARELY is in concert. I also learned that one of my best friends from college was having her baby shower on 6/16. This was also a sign that we were going to get the call. I delayed getting a ticket to go back home for the party; and now tickets are $150-$200 more than they should be and I'm kicking myself for not getting something sooner.

Work has also been busy. Very busy. Conference calls at 7AM & 5PM, meetings all day, and then working at night busy. But I've been diligently working through the endless projects so that WHEN THE CALL COMES I can drop everything and go without worry. The only result of all of this work is MORE work which is good for staying busy and having some visible accomplishments before the "maternity leave"... but come on, work is work and we are ready to go!

But I am putting these issues in perspective with some awful news that was announced at work yesterday. One of my dear co-workers experienced a family tragedy over the weekend. Her 24-year old son was killed in a car accident. He was the passenger & ejected from the vehicle because he wasn't wearing a seatbelt. This was on top of other two major deaths in the past year for her... her mother died after a relatively short battle of lung cancer (they were very very close & her mother was relatively young), and her mother-in-law also recently passed away. Just how much can one person take? I can not even imagine how devastated she must feel right now.

Appreciation for my small, but growing family, is what is on my mind and what I will focus on. In this light, my issues really seem trivial.

Me too. It is weird how everything can seem so important or unimportant at different times, it doesn't take much to put life into a new perspective. For instance I had pulled up your bog page and then gone to get Lucas a snack, all the sudden I hear- "WHOOOAAA, Mama! Mama! Look, look! Cooool! Theres a Doggy! And a Kitty!"...He had looked at the screen and seen the top of your blog page! Needless to say he things your page is VERY cool. Sometimes all it takes for me to realize my blessings are the little things that amaze a 2 year old and the happiness they get from such simple everyday things!

I can't imagine your co-workers pain. It puts all our efforts into perspective. How to appreciate every precious day, even as we wait.

How sad for her loss. It does make you want to appreciate life and live it in the moment.

Enjoy your concert and your trip!

Are you waiting for reaccreditation before you expect to get referrals, or could you get any news before that?

That's sad. It does put things in perspective, doesn't it? I had two big events (one loss and one bad accident) happen to friends this year. I never blogged about it, but it did slap some perspective into me, too.

That's terrible. Frank always tells me to drive careful when he's going out the door and I laugh at him thinking he's just being a worry wart. Maybe I should listen. Something like that certainly does give you perspective.

Just checking in to see how things are going. I am very sorry to hear about your coworker's loss. How very tragic. I can't even imagine losing a son and the pain she must be in. My heart goes out to her.

And it does set things into perspective. I'm going to hold my children a little tighter today and make sure their seatbelts are snug before I start the car!
