Following through on my
summer goals post, we did see the fireworks on the USS Midway and had a party on Saturday with a bunch of families who have experienced Russian adoption.
We had nine kids in our home, ranging from 2 to 12. This is what I've learned:
1. Our pool is going to provide HOURS of entertainment for our girls. I'm so glad we have a house with a pool.
2. The most popular game with the kids (all ages): Let's Go Fishin'. The least popular game (with me): Cootie. Wow, too many pieces! I don't remember that game being so crazy.
3. A big 'ol box of chalk also keeps a crowd of all ages occupied. Morning after photo above.
4. We have an awesome dog. (We knew that already) And he LOVES children. We put him in our bedroom while we were eating and he just couldn't stand to be away from the action and attention.
5. Do not bother with baking your homemade, super secret family receipe, chocolate cake. Kids (and adults) all love brownies (receipe courtesy of Betty Crocker).
The evening ended about 9PM. Yoshi made an appearance to say "goodbye" to our final guests. We did some cleaning up for an hour and then watched some of the Live Earth concert. At 10:45PM, I looked around for Yoshi - she usually comes downstairs to watch TV in the evening. Michael thought she was just hiding because we had the vacuum cleaner out. I was worried.
After checking all of her hiding places & calling out for her multiple times, I heard little meows from our courtyard. OMG! Yoshi was wandering around outside, for at least an hour. She must have gotten outside when I was bringing things inside. It was reassuring, I guess, that she didn't wander far from home and obviously wanted to come back inside. (Our home backs up to a field ... coyotes ... very common in So Cal.)
So, I guess that makes SIX things that I learned this weekend ... trust your mommy instincts!

Sounds like a fun time - good thing you're hanging around with other Mommys and kids - you're going to be one very soon!! How excited are you?!
Wanted to comment about the piece on your dad. I wasn't ready to comment the day I read it. I do check your blog, Melinda's, and a teacher friend's blog almost every day (keeping the motivation going to return to 7th graders in the fall!). I wait for the blog that says you're heading to Russia.
Sharing stories/pictures of your dad is just like reading any story book. Journal your "Best Times" with your dad and set them aside as your own short family "stories."
I composed a piece about Grandma Green/Mom/Lillian called "The Best Times." Since I had issues with her that I never resolved (as any daughter has with a mother),it really brought out what she meant to me. I added to her journal that I gave you a copy of with pictures of her and memoribilia I've collected. It's not a fancy scrapbooking endeavor, but it does tell a story.
Glad you found Yoshi! Keep blogging and writing. Love, Aunt Tam
Sounds like you had alot of fun! I will have to check out that Go Fishing Game!
But actually it's a cunning ploy to learn things.
;)
I agree with everyone else, gorgeous backyard.
