Dear Adoption Agency Coordinator in Russia,

I am writing to let you know that we are ready to get the call about our referrals. Today, my team finished a >month long project at work. I have another big presentation due Friday which is nearing completion. I have made sure that all of our big marketing campaigns have been launched, or reasonably organized to launch for the Fall. From a career perspective, this makes it a perfect time for me to travel TWICE to Russia before the end of the year and start my 3-month FMLA break.

Yes, it is true I have a week long business trip out East at the beginning of October, and another 10-day trip to Japan planned the 3rd week of October, but I will be purchasing refundable tickets and can cancel my trip(s) should we need to be in Russia for Trips 1 and/or 2. I am waiting until next week to book those airline tickets.

And in case that didn't convince you....I also got a pedicure this evening, and I'm getting full highlights and a cut on Thursday. I've been trying to spend time outdoors so my ghostly complexion has some color. Traveling in the next 3-4 weeks would be ideal to maximize the high cost of hair maintenance. And reduce the chances I'll need to redeem one of those fake spray tans I have collected at the local tanning salon (carried over from my wedding tanning needs).

So check out the pictures and description of the big house we bought especially for our girls, and let us know when you think our girls will be available for us to meet them. 'Cause the house feels kind of empty right now. We are ready for them, and they should be waiting for a mom and dad in the orphanage right now. It seems sad that we can't be together. We are ready.

Warm regards,
Future parents of X and X.

Waiting sucks. It does seem like you guys have been stuck in this phase a long time. Sorry. :(

How could they not give you a referral now when you are so READY? Especially with your powerful persuasive arguement about your hair! :)

(Funny, how much these superficial things matter to us...I too had to time my appointments around Russia. Not knowing how long I might be there (we weren't sure about our 10-day wait) I didn't want to get stuck in Russia with grown-out highlights! lol).

Amen to that.

Ditto! What a great letter and you're so right about your hair! How could they dare miss an opportunity to meet you with fresh highlights! I'm absolutely the same way about my hair - right after it's done, I'm ready for whatever comes next. Here's to hoping referrals are right around the corner!

Love the letter and I really hope that the powers that be see how much sense it makes. :-)

Oh, wow, I remember going through this waiting period with my daughter in 2005. It's like the clock just doesn't move and you find yourselt trying to will things to happen. Best of luck to you. Hope it happens soon.

I really hope the timing happens as you hope - although (I hate to say it) you may have just opened up the universe to Murphy's Law. You need to keep those kinds of things quiet so the universe doesn't hear you.

Referral. Referral. Referral. Just a little chant to keep you going. You're so organized the universe must give in to the magnetic pull of the vacuumn of chaos that children will create. Waiting in spirit with you.

Oh, Tricia. I see all the irony dripping from that post. ;-) I wish you could hear about your kids now! This very minute. You are such a good friend and are going to be such a fantastic mother. No words can help, but it will happen, and then you'll have to be careful what you wish for. Ha ha, just kidding.

I could sense that for awhile you were O.K. about the wait, but now it is coming down to... you have got to be kidding...let's get on with it! It sounds like it is the perfect time for you (despite your tongue-in-cheek letter). I think there is a lot of travel to Russia over the next few months (now that August has passed) so hopefully it will be soon!

After reading that letter, how could they not call you with a referral?!?! Seriously, I hope you don't have to wait too much longer.
