Reasons Why I Became "Old" In 2007
1. I made four trips to the doctor's office in the last four weeks. Granted they were mainly adoption-related but when the doctor said, "well, at least you don't remember...we used to use a metal speculum..." I had to correct him.
2. During this same visit he informed me that this is the year I get to go for my first mammogram.
3. Waiting for my blood tests (yes, still at the doctor) I picked up Better Homes & Gardens and Redbook and actually enjoyed some of the articles. This was the week after I chose "O Magazine" over Cosmo and Glamour on my long haul flight to Tokyo.
4. I am now "ma'am" - instead of "miss" - to all of the grocery store baggers. What's the giveaway - the high fiber cereals? The big jug of milk?
5. Michael and I got home from our New Years celebrations at 10:15PM. Then I watched the TV celebrations with the closed captioning so I could understand the music lyrics.
6. Am I the last one to know what Guitar Hero is? (Found out on Dec. 22)
7. I am finally coming to terms that I will need to decipher Hannah Montana vs. High School Musical vs. Zoey 101 vs. all of their real life names. The popularity of these shows confuse me. In this same area, when Maggie treated us to video of Slugger dancing (check her Nov archives) to Soulj@ Boy, I had never ever heard of him.
8. I started shopping for M this past week. Why would I buy something that says "Baby Phat" on it? Or teenager-styled clothing in Size 6? I was looking for the cute plaid jumpers and thick tights...
9. I now have someone reporting to me at work. And in 2008 I will get another direct report. My new title (yep, got the promotion) at work is "senior manager". It's weird to be "the boss" after all of these years.
10. I forgot.
Happy New Year!
As for your list of 10...I hit many of those with you!
I had a mamo done at age 21 cause the doc thought he felt something. And had my baseline at 35..and one at 35.5, 36.5, 37.5 and last year at 40....found a lymph node at the baseline (and family history) they wanted to keep tabs on. Praise God nothing was wrong. I say ALL this to you for this reason....they aren't that bad. And to know that all is okay, I would do it every MONTH if I needed it.
just needed to comment that i know all those shows (10 year old daughter) and even soulja boy (13 year old son) and you just keep on learning from these wonderful kids.
I am way excited for you!!

And, for what it's worth current ACS recommendations are 1st mammo at 40. The old baseline at 35 recommendation is no longer (except in family history of early onset cases). So maybe (perhaps) you just have an old doctor! :)
1. Your arm is not long enough to hold the book far enough away to read it.
2. You color your hair because you have to not because you want to.
3. You get panicky when your Estroven supply runs low.
4. The checker asks for your ID ("We card at 35")and you leap over the checkout stand and hug him.
5. You ask your three-year-old, "How old is momma?" and she says, "Five!"
I developed arthritis this year which is really rocking my world. I'm merely 44. Gahhhhhh
I agree though, that some of the clothing for young girls is RIDICULOUS!
