Pskov

(1) Heliopark Old Estate Guest House, our apartment is on the right & ground level; (2) View of river from Guest House gate; and (3) View of river from nearby bridge.

We have discovered two more reasons why we love our apartment in Pskov. We have unlimited access to a washing machine in the basement; and we have a wireless internet connection for 100 rubles per day (that's about $4 USD).

Yesterday we spend a few hours walking around town in the slush and rain. I am sure Pskov is beautiful in the summer when the parks and trees are green. Now it is pretty wet and gray. We would love to come back and explore sometime in the future... there are many historic sites outside of the town as well. Plus, the town is filled with Orthodox churches...most of them abandoned but still beautiful. I will post some photos tomorrow of the few we saw on our walk.

We are spending our last day here (until Monday) at the apartment. Early in the trip Michael had a cold, and today it has returned... most likely due to our walk yesterday. Tomorrow we leave Pskov at 10AM and make our way down to Velikiye Luki. We hope to visit Rita in the afternoon.

We also heard today that there is a 99% chance we will be coming home on Feb 16th! Apparently our coodinator has been working on getting our paperwork expedited so we can return to Moscow on Wednesday. Please keep your fingers crossed for us!!!

I hope they can get your paperwork processed so you can come home sooner!

We are still thinking about an infant girl, 8 to 18 mo. We'll see how it goes. I talked to B (director at AO) the other day and he said that we've remained in a holding pattern near the top of the waiting list, thankfully! So it won't be too much longer once we get our paperwork submitted. And I only have one more piece to go!

Your trip reminds me so much of our trip when we went in December 2006. It can be a bit dreary, but it seems like you've been able to travel and also you have so much to look forward to! I hope the rest of your trip goes smoothly... and soon you will see Rita again. Give her a big hug from all of us!

Here's hoping you come home--there's like the Pacific coast to heel your respiratory system! Indiana has been cold, wet, icy, snowy, and gray--when will it end. I'm going down Sunday to Indy to help Tim and Mel for a few days. Our fingers are crossed--Aunt Tam

You don't know me but I am friends with Tim and Melinda. Melinda had mentioned you adopted your girl so I followed the link to check out pictures. I ended up reading your entire post. What a wonderful and exciting story. Congratulations.
