Waiting for surgery and comparing wristbands with Papa...
Three popiscles = smooth recovery
Rita's surgery went well. They took her back for anaesthesia right at 9:30 and 35 minutes later the pediatric opthamologist told us that her "silicone frontalis suspension with layed closure" was a success. She had three small incisions on her eyebrow and two in her eyelid area. Through these small incisions they placed a pentagon-shaped piece of silicone so that her eyebrow muscles are now engaging her eyelid. Looking straight on, she now has a fold like her left eye.
We also arranged to have her umbilical hernia operation at the same time; and that took about 20 minutes. We were fortunate to get this scheduled at the same time since it also required general anaesthesia. This was performed by one of Michael's colleagues from Rotary International who goes down to Mexico every year to perform cleft palate and other plastic surgery procedures. (We went to the world premiere of
this documentary last year which talks about the program and one of their trips. Her surgeon is featured in this clip. We think these sort of things are really cool.)
At home with her new teddy bear
Recovery time at the hospital was 1.5 hours. We are home now watching TV and trying to keep her from running around and picking at her tummy bandage. We will go see her opthamologist again tomorrow; and her plastic surgeon on Monday. Her eye is still very swollen but it looks good!
Best,
Suzanne

Wishing a well recovery!
