Potluck
It's Monday and time for some blog potluck...

Time-outs, time-ins, whatever you call 'em
We've only had a handful of timeouts since Friday, and for all of them Rita has sat nicely on the step for her 5-10 minutes. I think she is getting the hang of it, and so I am. I am giving out alot of 1s and 2s... and it seems to be working.

Update on English
I think Rita understands ALOT of what we are saying - even more so than she will admit.

Last night at dinner
Mama: "Are you finished with dinner?"
Rita: "I done."

Today in the car before going to the library
Mama: "Do you have to go to the bathroom?"
Rita: "I fine."

Tonight making chili together
Mama: ((Dumping the third can of beans in the pot))
Rita (stirring, getting tired): "Oh man!" (Actually came out "Ah man!")

Update on Thani
He's doing fine. Getting bored sitting around the house, but fine.

Moscow International Circus Review
Didn't happen. Our friends who went down for the 2PM show emailed and said that the venue was empty. After going through a Russian adoption, nothing with the word "Moscow" surprises me when it doesn't happen / when you want it to happen / should happen. LOL.

Sounds like some great progress, like she really is getting the hang of it... it has really got to be an incredible adjustment for her little heart to make! Glad to hear Thani is doing well. I realize I need to take O'Reilly in and get him tested.

I just read your comment on Archi's Antics... i bet you would love a nap! ;-) Notice on that post O'Reilly isn't really napping ... he is "laying down" but playing with the black lab next door through the fence... so even puppies don't take naps when they should! "Is it ok if i just lay here quietly, Mom?!!"

You're doing a great job!

Yep, pretty soon you and Michael are going to have to start being very careful about your personal conversations in front of the child: they understand pretty quickly and sometimes can be quite sneaky about listening in!

Strange about the circus.

A funny about kids understanding more English than they let on. When my DD was in kindergarten there was a little girl whose family had recently moved from Russia. I would often help in the classroom and was the first to realize that she understood WAY more than anyone gave her credit for.

Why? She would giggle endlessly at my corny jokes. Even my simple one liners would send her into a fit of giggles. (she is now fluent, still one of the few kids that laugh at my jokes ;) )

Sounds like Rita is understanding a lot! I know that S & S started "getting" almost everything at about six months home. Rita probably "gets" way more than she lets on. What a little trooper--that's Rita. And what a fantastic mom--that's Tricia. It's all coming together, and it will keep getting better.
