Mamochka!
Mama!
MOM!
Da Mama? Da Mama? Da Mama?
Mamochka (мамочка), Look!

OMG, there rarely is a minute these days when one of these phrases isn't said - usually shouted - to get my attention. It really kicked in this past weekend. As a past mom-in-waiting, these are the moments I dreamed of. Rita can't seem to get enough attention and positive reinforcement about EVERYTHING she is doing and/or seeing.

But it doesn't help when you also have a 90-pound dog pretty much vying for the same amount of attention. I think Thani really got used to having me around 24/7 and now that I'm back at work he is my shadow when I am home. Actually, he has to be closer than a shadow because I tripped over him like 20 times this weekend.

(Of course I wouldn't want it any other way - but man, does it drive me crazy sometimes!)

Rita taking care of Thani before bedtime. "Mama, Thani six!" says Rita. "Rita ... Thani is SICK not six. Rita - you - are SIX years old. SICK. SIX. Two different words." (How communication is working around here these days.)

Thani is at the hospital tonight for his final round of heartworm treatment. He had his second treatment today; tomorrow he will have another dose. We can pick him up on Wednesday.

It's kind of funny, because I think I had mention that I always seemed to have a kid in my class that was born in Russia (this semester it's two!). And usually they have a little bit of an accent (these are college kids of course). Anyway, Rita will have an accent for awhile, maybe a long time, but at least in CA that's not out of the ordinary, which I think will make it easier for her for sure.

But at least the language thing is that you get to work on a lot more words and (I think) a lot easier than having a 2 year old whose "Ba" means everything from "Back" to "Button" to "Ball".

:)

We have the same issues. Piney still says mom, my mom, my mommy, mom mom, mom about every other word. Also- I still have a hard time understanding a lot of her other words. She is improving though. It is hard to have someone looking for your exclusive attention all the time when you have other things to do. At the same time it is nice to be so wanted!

Yep, when we are together, I hear "mama! mama! mama! mama!" all day long. In a wonderful way, it is great! But it also gets tiring. It's like someone at work saying, all day, "Melissa, Melissa, Melissa, Melissa....." There are times when I look at Iliya and say, "yes! I am your mama! Now let's call daddy for a little while!" In all seriousness, though, I'm glad that Iliya has me to call "mama" - and I would rather him repeat it over & over, than not say it at all.

I think it's cute that Rita calls you Mamatchka - I love that name, because it seems so special

Oh, I know. I feel guilty every time I get sick of hearing "mom" because I wanted to hear that for so long.

One of my friends told her three kids to call her Estelle one day. Just for the change of pace. Estelle isn't even her name.

Mamochka. That is SO cute! Well, maybe not 20 times right in my face, but reading it on your blog, ADORABLE! (Sorry, it is.)

Glad things went well for your first week back at work. It is tough but you have it together!

Rita is doing great. I know how hard it can be. When I used to get frustrated with Sergei, I used to remind my self how hard it was for him too. It is such a great feeling to be someone's Mom!

Oh, I can relate. Clyde is at this stage where he repeats things over and over. His fave is "mommy...mommy...mommy". Holy cow it drives me absolutely nuts.

Oh wow do I know how you feel. Lucas continues to say it over and over even when I tell him that I hear him or to hold on a sec...no concept of time!
So funny, Lucas was sitting on my lap when we opened your blog and he said "Look mommy! They have Wrigley!" :)
