This morning I dropped Rita off at her first day of swimming camp. When I got home this evening, she was laying - quietly - on the sofa watching a movie. Swimming camp wiped her out! She loved that they got to swim TWO TIMES at camp. And they learned front stroke and back stroke; and she told me that they told her to "keep your butt up" when swimming (her words with demonstration of kicking harder, I think).
Also at camp, they have this huge bouncy house that the kids can play in. She absolutely loves those things and if we had to pay for each use, I'm sure we already paid for the entire week of camp with just one day of bouncy house.
Health update:
In the last month, Rita has put on 2-3 lbs. This is the first time she has gained weight (her height and weight are 50% and her records all show the same) since we got home. Her doctor told us that she doesn't need vitamins since her bloodwork was fine, and she does a good job of eating fresh vegetables (preferably raw carrots, tomatoes, broccoli, snap peas) and fruits. One other interesting observation... When we first met her she didn't have any body hair on her legs and arms (like baby skin), and in the last month she now has light blonde hair!
And that nasty cough she had on vacation ... vanished once we got back home.
English update:
Since last week, Rita is now actively asking us the english words for things. Sentences are starting to come along too...
Regarding the changes in her health -- it's amazing what a difference good nutrition makes, isn't it?
that's strange about the leg/arm hair. good nutrition goes a long way, huh?!
yeah it's amazing how nutrition and love and security encourages growth! i bet it's a huge combo. foster kids always tend to be small and miss things too. you must be so thankful for how well she's doing
