No News Is Good News
After Monday's drama (on top of last week's camp performance), I thought this week would be tough. But Rita had a great week, and we got many good reviews about Rita's helpfulness and politeness from the head counselor. I'm not sure if the daily "if you are good, we'll have ice cream tonight" positive reward method (aka bribe) worked or she just had a counselor which kept her entertained / focused or something but it's nice not to have to deal with naughty behavior!

In other Rita news, we went to the dentist on Thursday because she's been having troubles with things getting stuck in her back molars. Upon closer examination, I noticed that part of one of her molars is missing (and was discolored). The dentist took xrays, and started to drill to fill the cavity. But he stopped and said that the tooth was moving around too much ... and he will need to extract it. We'll go back next week to do that. We are kind of annoyed because this was the tooth that our previous dentist worked on (if you can say that) in February. Needless to say we have moved to a new dentist and we are down one baby molar to show for it.

Lena arrived on Wednesday and things are going well. I'll save that for another post. I'll just say that it's strange to "parent" a 16-year old. I don't think I'm old enough (but I am)! LOL

Curious to hear more about Lena too.

I'm glad she had a good week. It's always nice to have a reprieve after more difficult times.

Can't wait to hear more about Lena.

Glad there were no more disappearing acts...

Can't wait to hear about the experience with Lena. And btw - I totally get what you mean about not being old enough to parent a 16 yo. Whenever I'm volunteering/working with high schoolers, I feel like they think I'm one of them. Guess it's good to be young at heart :)

Glad this week was better at camp. Terrible to hear about the tooth but glad that you already had a new dentist lined up.

We had a child dentist who liked to fill teeth even though they didn't need it. When the boys "kept getting cavities" I went to another dentist and he said that there were no new ones that he could find. We requested the records be sent to our new dentist. The old dentist wouldn't do it. At that time, I didn't know enough to fight it. Yes, eager to hear about new 16 year old. Parent on, girl! Aunt Tam

I would agree on the "parent" a 16 year old thing...I still can't get past the fact that one day my children will actually be 16. Scary.

We have been using ice cream as a bribe for a long time. It works great.

I am glad Rita is doing well. We are thinking about the exchange student program for next year. I think it is a a great idea. I am excited to see how it goes for you all.

We go to the dentist next week. Ruslan has had quite a few teeth pulled in Russia (and more to follow).

It is a good thing you didn't know about the missing for 45 minutes. I would have been a nervous wreck. Unfortunately, our little ones had to defend for themselves and are not use to having to think about appropriate behavior or where they are suppose to be.

Glad all turned out well and she is doing well. I loved seeing the photos from the beach. Wish we lived closer!
