Today was a great day. I volunteer with Rhodesian Ridgeback Rescue whenever I can help. About a month ago, I performed a homecheck for a local family. Just before Christmas, I was helping them find a dog and the coordinators were referred a dog from a humane society about 70 miles from my house. Knowing this family (or other families) probably wouldn't go that far to assess a dog (and no one else from RR rescue had met the dog), I decided to go visit her on a day trip to Idyllwild.
We met Bella. She was cute - underweight and overwhelmed by having visitors. She has been at the shelter since November 20th. We looked her up and down and took a bunch of pictures. Over the last week we have been putting the word out about her availability. (Since she isn't a purebred Ridgeback or Ridgeback mix with a ridge we couldn't take her into rescue.)
Well today one of our applicants said that he wanted to adopt Bella~! We talked and I sent him the pictures ... and he adopted her over the phone! I will pick her up on Sunday (after she is spayed) and will drive her to San Bernardino to meet up with another RR volunteer who will take her to Bakersfield. (
You're awesome C-A!) Bella's new family will meet her there - they are driving about 350 miles to get her - each way! (We have also put in a request with Pilots N Paws - we are hoping one of their pilot volunteers will pick up our case and fly her up north.)
I'm so happy. Bella's new family is so happy. Bella reminds them of their dog that they lost in December at 13.5 years old. After seeing her pictures and learning more about her they feel like she's "the one".
